📢 Can I Get Your Attention - Do You Want Better Attention?

My good friend Brendan asked me a great question last week. He asked what trends I am seeing in my coaching.

The short answer to that is that EVERYONE is struggling to pay attention to the things that matter to them. In a world of emails, Slack, social media and those ever expanding WhatsApp groups, it is almost impossible to avoid being distracted.

More recently the rise of AI tools that automatically summarize everything has, counterintuitively, made things worse. It turns out that we were already overloaded with data. Clicking a button to create some bullet points of a meeting that's automatically emailed to the attendees creates more noise without us being able to absorb it.

So, if this resonates with you, know that you are not alone.

Also, understand that recognizing this problem gives you an advantage, if you learn how to do something about it. You see, when literally everyone else is unfocussed and distracted, if you can pay attention, you win.

But how do we do that? We've forgotten haven't we?

Which is why I am writing this to you today. You see, there are a few simple things we can do to make this better. But I think, it would be better to do that as part of a community.

And so, on Friday I am going to send you something to try next week. It is completely free (don't tell my business coach). I just think it would be fun to create a 7-day challenge that you and my clients can participate in.

So, if you would like to get your attention back next week, watch your inbox on Friday afternoon. If you have any colleagues, friends or family who might benefit, get them to subscribe to the newsletter here.

Looking forward to sharing this with you, Stephen

The weekly session in the Stephen Lock Academy today is about Overcoming Fears. I don't mean spiders and toy dolls (my brother Andrew hates them). No, I mean the more emotional and interpersonal fears that hold us back. Some of them are really common like: Rejection: "If they're unhappy with me, I'm not safe." Being judged: "Their reaction to my work is a verdict on me." Others are a bit less common like: Success and visibility: "If this works, more will be expected and I'll be seen."...

Yesterday I told you I have decided to do build from my passion. This is it. To be clear, I love my work. I love 1:1 coaching. I love team coaching. I love motivational speaking. I love facilitating. But my absolute passion? Is helping people to become the very best version of themselves that they can be. Now THAT is lights me up. People who follow my process and say, "I want to be the best in the world", or people who were stressed and then say, "I realise that I am already happy", or people...

In March this year I achieved something huge and it ruined my progress. Let me explain. Four years ago I set out to turn my vocation (coaching) into a business. I had no idea how to do that when I started, but I had faith that if I trusted myself, worked hard and didn't quit, I could do it. And I did. I've made my living from this for 3 years now, which is something I am very proud of. So what's the problem? What happened in March is that I ran the numbers on my current year and realised I...
